Lincoln Trailer

The title says it all… this should win multiple Oscars, especially best actor with Lewis (if Phoenix doesn’t win for The Master). Looks amazing.

Oh, and what about Lincoln’s voice being higher pitched? That’s what history has told us about it, so good for Spielberg for keeping it that way.

Lincoln

Umm… Can you say multiple Oscars? I know we haven’t seen any “moving pictures” yet (we only have a couple stills) but we all know how good Spielberg is. We all know that Daniel Day Lewis is arguably the best actor of our generation. That combination alone is a knock out blow to the competitors. It’s like Bolt from Jamaica running against Newman from Seinfeld. November 9th will be a great day to go to the movies…

Superman Teaser

I have to admit that I got goosebumps when I saw the Superman teaser before The Dark Knight Rises the other day. Visually it looks like a Malick film (which should be interesting) and unlike the “bright” atmosphere that the last Superman and Green Lantern films had. It seems to be more in the vein of the Batman movies by Nolan. The cast is really solid. Zach Snyder is a very good director and he’s working with Christopher Nolan on this one… can’t  beat that.

If this tone and cinematography is what DC Comics has planned for their Justice League of America movie (rumored to be 2015) then it could be unbelievable.

Here’s the teaser (the voice-over is done by Kevin Costner who plays his human father who raises him):

Marvel Comics – Next Phase of Movies

The next set of movies coming out for Marvel looks solid.

First we have Iron Man 3:

It’s shaping up to be much better than Iron Man 2. The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley)  is confirmed to be the villain. That’s all I needed to hear. He is such a great actor and The Mandarin is Iron Man’s best villain period.

Next comes Thor: The Dark World

The Dark World is rumored to be referring to the realm of the Dark Elves. Does this mean that Thor will be up against Malekith the Accursed in addition to Wormwood, Bitterhand and Grendell? That would be awesome. Sign me up.

Next is Captain America: The Winter Soldier

The Winter Soldier refers to the return of Bucky Barnes (his body was also preserved by the cold) as a programmed Soviet assassin. The movie will also feature The Falcon played by Anthony Mackie (great casting). I’m interested how The Falcon will look and be brought “up to date”.

Last but not least is The Guardians of the Galaxy

Really looking forward to this one. It’s said to have the most recent roster of characters: Drax the Destroyer, Groot, Star Lord, Rocket Raccoon (who will no doubt be the fan favorite) and Gamora. Hopefully Adam Warlock will make an appearance with Thanos being involved in the main story. Here is the concept art for the cast:

This will all culminate with The Avengers 2. Will Thanos (possibly from The Guardinas movie) be the main enemy? Here’s hoping to that. Maybe an Infinity Gauntlet storyline? Awesome…

Ekki Mukk

Sigur Ros will be releasing their new album Valtari later this month. Here is a song from it called Ekki Mukk. If you have ever heard Sigur Ros before you know that you need to listen to the entire song. It becomes a thing of beauty. Especially around 2:30 and on. Even as I type that I want to delete it. The whole thing is amazing.

Thumbs Up Thumbs Down

Thumbs Up

1. Second season of The Walking Dead. This show is so good.

2. Comic Book Men on AMC. Brings me back to when I collected comics.

3. The Shamrock Shake at McDonald’s. It like Kemp’s Frosty Trees as a shake.

4. Season 2 of The Killing (also on AMC) starting up first week of April.

5. The IPad 3 (or whatever they call it – the new iPad… iPad… Who knows). It is beyond words how awesome this device is.

6. Matthew Perryman Jones. More on him soon. He is such an amazing singer and songwriter.

7. Keane’s new album coming out in May. From the sound of it, it’s a return to the sound of their first album… Which is a very good thing.

8. Reading Cardinal Newman’s sermons during Lent. What a great mind with such an insight into the human condition.

Thumbs Down

1. The warm weather means that I can’t wear sweaters anymore which in turn means that I have to iron my dress shirts. I love wearing a wrinkled shirt under a sweater hat no one will see…

2. The upcoming bug infested spring and summer due to not having a winter this year.

3. The talent on American Idol this season. I guess I’m rooting for Phillip Phillips… Hey June you need to go soon…

I’m starting to think that this album will one of the “essential” Christmas albums to own (along with Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli, etc. – a post on this later). I was worried about his cover of Mariah’s “All I Want for Christmas is You” but after watching the video below I’m not worried at all)
